Bio

Carleton Bovell is a singer/songwriter from Ottawa, Canada. His music, best described as modern acoustic rock, features layered guitar textures, tuneful melodies and honest, deeply personal lyrics.

Carleton performed extensively and released two CDs as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the hard rock quartet Mere Image throughout most of the 1990’s. It was upon leaving the band at the end of 2000 that he became very active as a solo performer.

The 5 song EP “Carleton” (2004), was his debut solo recording. This was followed by the full-length album “Her” (2006). Both CDs were co-produced with Producer of the Year Juno Nominee Joao Carvalho (Gord Downie, Hayden, Hawksley Workman). Carleton’s songs have charted on radio stations across Canada and have been finalists in the National Songwriting Competition (Canada) and International Songwriting Competition (USA).

Carleton has entertained hundreds of audiences at many of Canada's most legendary live music clubs. In the process he has performed as an opening act for some of the country’s most well known rock artists including Honeymoon Suite, April Wine, Jeff Healey, Wide Mouth Mason, the Tea Party, Moist and Default. As a musical guest he has appeared on television shows such as Good Morning Canada, Breakfast Television and CTV News.

In his hometown, Carleton is a proud supportor of local charities. He has performed at fundraising events such as the Labatt 24 hour Relay, H.O.P.E. Volleyball, the CHEO B-B-Q and Earth Day Celebrations in support of his favourite political party, the Green Party of Canada. He has also appeared at many of the region's premiere outdoor festivals including the Ottawa SuperEx, the Stewart Park Folk Festival, the National Capital Race Weekend and Riveredge.

Carleton holds a Bachelor of Music Degree (Honours in Music Education) from McGill University. He owns and operates the
Carleton Guitar Studio where he teaches approximately 30 students per week.
